Royal Jordanian resumes flights to Benghazi on Sept. 15

Sep 12, 2011 - Amman

The company suspended its operations to Tripoli and Benghazi after the turmoil that erupted in Libya last February. RJ President/CEO Hussein Dabbas said that the company took this decision after it obtained all the necessary approvals from the concerned authorities to restart operating to Benghazi, adding that RJ will fly to this Libyan city almost daily in response to strong demand on travel between Jordan and Libya at this stage.

The flights to Benghazi will depart from Amman at 11:00 and arrive at 13:10, Libya local time. They leave Benghazi at 14:30 and reach Amman at 18:20. Dabbas added that he expects RJ to resume its flights to the capital, Tripoli, in September, after ensuring it is safe to fly there and Tripoli International Airport can accommodate flights. He also stressed the importance of reconnecting Jordan and Libya through regular flights, as this facilitates the movement of citizens from both countries.

The move is bound to ease travel, instead of having to move overland to Tunisia and Egypt, and use this last country’s airports to fly to Jordan or other countries around the world.

Dabbas expressed hope that the situation in Libya calms down soon. He highlighted the fact that RJ used to operate five weekly flights to Tripoli and two weekly flights to Benghazi, directly and regularly, to serve the citizens of the two countries and to meet active travel demands, especially from the Jordanian workforce in Libya and the Libyan citizens who come to Jordan seeking medical treatment.
