New Airbus A320 joins RJ fleet

Sep 19, 2011 - Amman

President/CEO Hussein Dabbas said that the renewal of the Royal Jordanian fleet will continue with the introduction of three additional A320s and two A321s, which will be delivered to the company during 2011 and 2012. These contracted aircraft are leased on operational basis and will be part of a total of 13 aircraft of the A320 family: four A319s, four A321s and five A320s.

Dabbas added that the name of the new aircraft, Amman, will replace the old one, being operative on short- to medium-haul routes. Being configured with 2 cabins, it seats 136 passengers, 16 in the luxurious Crown Class cabin. All seats are equipped with the Audio-Video-On-Demand in-flight entertainment system fixed in every seat onboard, as well as a spacious seat pitch which enables passengers to experience greater roominess and comfort.

The new A320 – that flies at a range of 5 flying hours and has a cargo capacity of 9,435 Kg – exemplify the standards that Royal Jordanian has set to ensure the operating efficiency of its fleet, according to Dabbas. He said that the installed V2500 engines are also designed to significantly reduce fuel consumption.
The RJ fleet, one of the world’s youngest fleet, counts 32 planes built according to the latest eco-friendly specifications and serving 59 worldwide destinations spanned over four continents.

At the end of July 2011, a new Airbus A330 aircraft joined the fleet, replacing the two A310 passenger aircraft, slated to be phased out in the near future. The three A330s will cover part of the RJ route network until the 11 Boeing 787, whose delivery was delayed, start joining the fleet, at the beginning 2014.
