Royal Jordanian to move to Terminal 8 at JFK
Oct 22, 2011 - Amman
The move will bring RJ closer to its code share partner American Airlines, which is located at Terminal 8, and enable passengers to fly on board both airlines using a single ticket at competitive prices.
The step will ease RJ passengers’ movement when using American Airlines flights from New York to Amman or from New York to other states, in addition to allowing them to use American Airlines Business Class Lounges at Terminal 8.
At the same time, RJ kept its current handling agent, “SWISSPORT”, to provide passengers and ramp services, thus maintaining smooth handling and saving time for movement between terminals at JFK Airport.
Royal Jordanian and American Airlines, members of oneworld alliance, signed a code share agreement in 2007; it was expanded several times in the past few years. The agreement gives RJ the right to put its code on American Airlines-operated tickets serving many destinations inside the United States, while AA can put its code on tickets operated by RJ from JFK to Amman.
RJ was the first Arab Airline to start operating between the Middle East and New York, in 1977. It now operates 5 weekly flights to JFK Airport.
John F. Kennedy International Airport is New York City's largest international airport in terms of number of passengers and cargo value. It is located in Queens County, on Long Island, in southeastern New York City, only 24km away from mid-town Manhattan. The airport is operated by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which also runs Newark Liberty and La Guardia Airports.
Terminal 8, which opened in 2007, has 29 gates and 36 jet bridges, retail and food outlets, in addition to customs capacity to process 1,600 passengers an hour.
