Royal Jordanian, Amadeus IT Group donate 100 computers to support education in Jordan
May 19, 2013 - Amman
Amadeus IT Group SA and Royal Jordanian have shared a solid commercial relationship since 2009, managing the airline’s passenger services systems, including reservations, inventory and departure control. Recently, the two partners reached an understanding that focuses on their capability to help the underprivileged schools in Jordan by providing them with computers that are in excellent condition to be used for educational and training purposes.
The initiative aims to support the project designed to train the less fortunate youth in Jordan in education, tourism-related skills and technology, aiding the development of schools and underprivileged social segments in remote locations in the Kingdom.
The training will be run by the Jordanian development initiative Madrasati, which helps facilitate quality education, leading to progress and transformation in the youth, and fostering the economic and social development of the nation. It also contributes to the effective battle against poverty and illiteracy. The Jordan Hashemite Fund for Human Development (JOHUD), a non-profit, non-governmental organization, also takes part to make this initiative a success. JOHUD is dedicated to promoting rights based on sustainable human development in Jordan.
RJ President/CEO Amer Hadidi said: “We are glad to cooperate with our partner, Amadeus IT Group, to strengthen the airline’s social bond with the society. RJ is aware of its social responsibility and the role that the private sector can play in sustaining development and collaborating to make a difference in the lives of hundreds of young people who most need it.
“This donation, done jointly with Amadeus Group, contributes to the concept that has been part of RJ’s philosophy during its 50 years of existence, which aims to support the community and build a continuous relationship between the airline and the society at large.”
On behalf of Amadeus IT Group, General Manager Amadeus Jordan Fadi Asal said: “We are proud of this long-term relationship with Royal Jordanian that allows the involvement of both companies in the social development of the country. We strongly believe that the aviation & the travel and tourism industry has a substantial role to play in CSR initiatives such as this. Furthermore, we think that training and education are key to the future of nations and that is why we are committed to continuing rolling out our program of donating computers, an initiative whose implementation and success could not be attained without such partnerships.”
Through CSR initiatives, Amadeus IT Group sends computers worldwide free of charge to be reused in community projects by those who benefit the most, mainly schools. Over 890 computers were donated by Amadeus IT Group in the last two years. Only in 2011, Amadeus IT Group SA corporate volunteers gave close to 17,500 working hours to support community initiatives in 45 countries.
