RJ Cargo obtains ISO 9001:2008 certification
Sep 27, 2011 - Amman
RJ Vice President/Cargo Muath Majali said: “It is the first time that the RJ Cargo obtains this certification, which expires in September 2014, subject to be renewed every three years. The certificate will definitely have a positive impact on the cargo performance”.
He added that a technical licensed team of auditors from the Swiss company SGS has conducted a comprehensive audit on all cargo sales and services sections, where all ISO requirements and procedures were implemented.
Majali said that the ISO 9001:2008 specifies requirements for a quality management system whereby an organization needs to demonstrate its ability to consistently provide product that meets customer and applicable statutory requirements. It also aims at enhancing customer satisfaction through providing customers with the highest standards of professional performance, including processes for continued improvement of the system and the assurance of conformity with customer requests.
“Not only does it satisfy them but also exceed their expectations and deliver exceptional value,” according to Majali.
During the three-day audit, the auditors were satisfied that all requirements needed for obtaining the certificate were met and the quality policy was communicated and understood within the cargo department. In addition, annual quality objectives were set, customer feedback was measured, the complaints, procedures & processes were documented and implemented and outsourced processes were followed up.
According to Majali, the certificate is an international recognition of RJ's efficiency in offering cargo services to individual and logistics companies at the airline’s 17,000m2 warehouse and cargo sales office, off the second circle, in the heart of Amman.
He also indicated that all terminal operations are automated for both storage and information systems. He also added that the Cargo Quality Control section carries out periodic internal audits for all cargo units in order to correct any shortcoming; preventive actions are taken to avoid any potential trouble.
The certification also represents a marketing tool that helps increase customers’ and shippers’ confidence in the airline cargo operations and services, and an acknowledgement of the efforts and professionalism exerted by the employees of this significant sector, which complements passenger transportation. Implementing a quality management system motivates the staff by defining their key roles and responsibilities.
Improved efficiency and productivity are bound to save costs, as service deficiencies are highlighted. Stemming from this, the service improves, resulting in less waste and fewer complaints.
Customers will thus notice that their needs are met consistently, on time and up to the standards, positively affecting the whole image of the airline. Majali said that RJ has a plan to open new cargo routes to Vienna, Kabul and Delhi to carry the Jordanian products and imports.
The move is bound to develop the economic relations between Jordan and both Eastern Europe and the Indian subcontinent. There are also intentions to study new cargo destinations in East Africa. Royal Jordanian cargo sector plays a key role in boosting the economy of the kingdom, and in supporting investment and trade. It freights fresh fruit and vegetables, garments and pharmaceutical products, live animals, mail and courier among others. Royal Jordanian has two Airbus A310s dedicated to carrying cargo, each of 38-ton capacity. It also carries cargo in the holds of its passenger aircraft covering 59 destinations on four continents.
Royal Jordanian cargo operates regular freighter services to Dubai, Cairo, Khartoum, Maastricht, Algiers, Baghdad, London Heathrow, Larnaca, Athens and Tel Aviv. In 2009, Air Cargo World magazine awarded Royal Jordanian the Air Cargo Award of Excellence in the Air Carrier category – recognition coming from a globally leading cargo magazine and air freight forwarders in key areas of measurement, such as: customer service, performance, value and information technology.
