Royal Jordanian transports horses for the Mercedes Equestrian Festival 2013

Oct 23, 2013 - Amman

The festival will take place at the Arabian Horse Club under the Patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Alia bint Al Hussein, president of the Royal Jordanian Equestrian Federation.

The RJ sponsorship involves transporting a number of horses for free onboard its A310 cargo aircraft from Maastricht, Amsterdam and Frankfurt to Amman. The process of transporting all the other horses participating in the competitions will continue throughout the period of the festival, which will witness three consecutive championships, each lasting for a period of three days. The event gathers 125 riders from Egypt, Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, Qatar, Belgium, Italy and Japan, besides Jordan. The competition will qualify the winners to participate in the World Equestrian Games in Las Vegas in 2014.

Royal Jordanian VP Cargo Sales and Services Muath Majali expressed satisfaction with RJ being one of the sponsors of the biggest equestrian event in Amman next to Mercedes and other sponsors, pointing out that the airline will be transporting all the horses that will participate in the event, providing all the necessary conditions onboard its aircraft and inside its cargo storage rooms.

During a press conference that was held at the Arabian Horse Club on October 21, 2013, Majali stressed that contributing to this festival is part of the company’s philosophy, which aims at strengthening RJ’s presence through social, economic, arts and sports activities. RJ is aware of its social responsibility and the role the private sector can play in supporting the community, he added. Majali praised the skills and competitiveness of the Jordanian riders and wished them achievements in the tournament.

He said that the RJ cargo sector has a long experience in transporting horses from different countries around the world, acquired during the airline’s 50 years of existence. It provides the highest standards of safety and comfort to the horses onboard its cargo aircraft; the airline uses special pallets, each accommodating three horses.

RJ operates regular cargo flights to nine destinations on its cargo route network including London, Vienna, Athens, Larnaca, Algiers, Tel Aviv and Frankfurt. It runs one weekly cargo flight to each of these destinations, whereby it operates four weekly cargo flight to Maastricht and two weekly cargo flights to Baghdad. RJ also operates semi-regular charter cargo flights to Erbil and Sulaymaniyah, and to other destinations around the world.
