RJ moves its operations to Concourse D at Dubai International Airport
Feb 24, 2016 - Amman
RJ and British Airways were the first airlines to start using Dubai International Airport’s Concourse D on February 24; the remainder carriers will phase moving their operations over the next several weeks.
With an area of 65,000 m2, Concourse D will become home to more than 100 airlines that currently occupy Concourse C.
Shifting operations of airlines to Concourse D is bound to lift annual passenger capacity at Dubai International Airport to 90 million.
The RJ passengers will benefit from linking the Concourse D to the newly renovated Terminal 1 by an airport train that will run every two and a half minutes between Concourse D and Terminal 1 and can transport 300 passengers per trip.
The new concourse features a total of nine lounges, including five airline lounges, a new Al Majlis lounge, two Dubai International Hotel lounges and a Marhaba VIP lounge. Passengers can also enjoy the offerings of several food and beverage outlets.
Dubai Duty Free has a total of 175 vendor installations in Concourse D, spread over an area of 7,000 m2.
Dubai International Airports said that on the apron, Concourse D has 21 contact stands, of which four will be able to accommodate Airbus A380 or Boeing 747 aircraft, and 11 remote stands with a design capacity for 18 million passengers. Dubai International Airports added that the Concourse D is energy efficient and sustainable following the highest global standards.
Paul Griffiths, chief executive of Dubai Airports, forecast 2016 passenger traffic at 85 million with the addition of the new concourse.
RJ currently operates three daily flights to Dubai.
