Royal Jordanian Announces its Sponsorship of C.D. Leganés in La Liga

Nov 05, 2016 - Madrid

This partnership was announced to the public in a press conference held in Madrid on Nov. 4 with the participation of officials from Royal Jordanian and C.D. Leganés. Also present was the president of La Liga Javier Tebas.

C.D. Leganés will play against Real Madrid on Nov. 6, 2016, at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium; Royal Jordanian will be the front shirt sponsor of C.D. Leganés club.

Royal Jordanian President/CEO Captain Suleiman Obeidat said Royal Jordanian’s sponsorship of the Spanish football team will boost its visibility in the European and international markets. It has already established itself as a carrier that offers top notch services in the air transport industry.

He added that RJ is now sponsoring a team that is playing in "La Liga" alongside giant names in the Spanish football league.

“Our sponsorship will draw the global attention to Jordan and Royal Jordanian that is leading the air transportation in the Levant region. Royal Jordanian has endeavored, at national level, to promote tourism to Jordan,” said Obeidat.

He added that Spain, in particular, and Europe used to be the source of inbound tourism, but this traffic witnessed a steep decline in the last few years. Captain Obeidat stressed that the airline has always projected tourism to Jordan and introduced the country’s culture and identity to the world. This has been an integral part of Royal Jordanian’s mission being the national carrier and Jordan’s ambassador of goodwill to the world’s countries. RJ plays this important role devotedly, befitting Jordan’s worldwide position.

Obeidat said that RJ, the third Middle Eastern airline to sponsor a "La Liga" club, operates direct flights to Madrid and Barcelona and to many other European capitals and cities. This sponsorship move is bound to boost the Spanish tourism to Jordan and increase the transit traffic traveling from the European continent to the eastern part of the world via Queen Alia International Airport.

In the press conference Gisle Dueland, Royal Jordanian’s Head of Sales, Marketing & Product Design, said that besides sponsoring the front shirts of C. D. Leganés players, the partnership also contains a number of advertising and hospitality rights. The airline logo will be present on targeted LED boards, flash boards and interview backdrops.

He added that the logo will also appear on the screens in stadiums, in addition to the airline’s TV commercial that will be displayed in C.D. Leganés home stadium before matches start. Royal Jordanian can use images of the team players, whom RJ is willing to receive in Jordan to give Jordanian football fans a chance to meet the team and develop relations with them.

The airline logo will be present on the team bus and the team’s publications addressed to members and fans. At the same time, the airline’s link will be placed on the club’s social media channels and official website.

C.D. Leganés was founded in 1928 in Leganés, on the outskirts of Madrid.

It will play six matches in Round 1 and 22 matches in Round 2 during "La Liga" season, starting November 6, 2016, until the end of the season on May 21, 2017, the period during which RJ sponsors the club.
